Even though we are currently in the fiery summer month of August, fall scents, apparel, and foods are already being displayed everywhere the eye can see, and I could not be more excited! There is nothing like the overall feeling of fall: the hues of red, orange, and yellow in nature, the sound of the leaves crunching beneath your feet, the chilling breeze that makes you grab a sweatshirt, and the smells, oh the wonderful smells of fall.

Fall is quickly approaching, but for those of you like me who do not exactly want to wait until early October to get your fall on, there is a way you can get the fall experience before the season actually comes: through scents!

Typically, during the fall and winter seasons, we all tend to splurge on pricier candles to give our homes that cozy, warm feeling. Though the more expensive candles smell amazing, we cannot always empty our wallets on candles. If you are someone who loves everything fall but is limited on funds to support your fall scent obsession, check out my couple tips on how to create a cozy home ready for fall but on a budget!

1. Essential oils: If you have read any of my previous articles, you know that I am a huge advocate of using essential oils for a number of reasons and purposes. For this article specifically, I’m going to tell you how you can make your home smell like any fall scent you love, just with essential oils!

Stephanie Gerber of helloglow.com came up with a variety of essential oil combinations that can satisfy just about every need you have for fall scents. If you love the smell of spicy, warm cinnamon, combine the following essential oils: “2 drops orange, 1 drop cinnamon, 1 drop clove, and 1 drop vanilla.”

In contrast, if you are wanting a scent that makes you feel like you’re walking through the woods or an orchard on a brisk day, combine these oils: “3 drops peppermint, 3 drops pine or fir, 1 drop eucalyptus, 1 drop tea tree, and 2 drops rosemary.”

Not only will you be able to create wonderful fall scents with these oils, but you can also use them for other purposes once you’re finished! The best part? You can get a set of essential oils for less than $30, cheaper than any large brand candle out there — so add these fragrant oils to your diffuser and let the smells of fall surround you!

2. Cheap candles: I know what you’re thinking, all cheap candles smell like wax and are absolutely terrible. In some cases, I totally agree with you but in others I have to disagree!

Listen, you will be surprised with some of the less expensive candles you can come across. One of my personal favorite places to shop for candles is Walmart because not only do they have a huge variety of scents, but their prices are super cheap! You can get a large, 3-wick candle at Walmart for less than $5, which is almost unheard of anywhere else.

Another favorite candle brand of mine is Our Own Candle Company which has an amazing, eclectic variety of great smelling candles for a good price. If you are looking for fall scents, they have just about any one you can imagine such as Apple Strudel, Bonfire, Caramel Pecan, Pumpkin Spice, and even Falling Leaves!

Perhaps the icing on the cake with these little wondrous candles are they are less than $3 and after your candle is fully melted, you’re left with a cute mason jar to keep! How can you resist candles like these?

3. Cinnamon brooms: Another cheap and easily accessible product to bring the smells of autumn into your home are cinnamon brooms. During the fall almost every grocery store and retail store alike carries them. These brooms not only infuse your home with the warm smell of cinnamon but also make very cool decorations for Halloween or the fall in general.

4. Make your own candle: If you have the time and are feeling crafty this fall, try making your own candle. They are super easy, inexpensive to make, and do not require much to make them.

Merissa of littlehouseliving.com gives easy to follow instructions on how to craft your own candle using beeswax, coconut oil, and spices of your choice like ginger, clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Once you’ve made your own, I’m sure you won’t want to go back to buying ones in the store!

Do you feel ready for fall yet? These four easy and cheap ways to make your home cozy and warm during the fall will change your life; I promise! So put on your diffuser, sit back on the couch, sip some warm apple cider, and welcome fall with open arms. As always, good luck!
